Imperative Reaction: Hype

I was going to get a new podcast out by Christmas, until I took an arrow in the knee. [rimshot] In every respect, this has been a great year for the podcast. Thanks to all of you for making it so. 2012 is just the beginning. Ring it in! U2: New Year's Day (Ferry Corsten rmx)

What started out as an attempt to make a mix of music from, for and in mind of video games kind of uh, went off the rails a bit. Enjoy! Perfect Circle: Count Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums

Have you ever been shopping in one of those Halloween stores that seem to pop up this time of year, bought a $3 CD of "Halloween Party Tunes", listened to it and thought "I could make a better Halloween Party mix than that!!" Of course you have. And so have I. Happy Halloween everybody. 1. London Philharmonic Orchestra: Peer Gynt Suite no. 1, Op. 46: In the Hall of the Mountain King

Well it's hot as Hell on the East Coast, and it's about to get a lot hotter, because less than 24 hours from now is the Dracula's Ball in Philadelphia. If you don't know what I'm talking about, go to draculasball.com and educate yourself. If you do know what I'm talking about, Tweet the requests to @DJKangal and make them good ones! Not too long ago I found a scrap of paper containing my setlist from the first Drac Ball I ever did. Last episode was the first half, and now, the thrilling conclusion! Or at least 17 reasons to marvel at what 30 year old me was thinking. Enjoy something cool under the Heat Dome. Apoptygma Berserk: Eclipse

About two and a half weeks from now, I will once again be DJing one of the coolest parties I have ever mixed it up, The Dracula's Ball in Philadelphia. I DJ'd that party for the first time just over a decade ago, in January of 2000. I don't remember much about that night, other than that was when I first met Bella Morte, I was so nervous I'd fuck up I barely drank at all (isn't that cute?? I thought sobriety helped), and that winter night was the second coldest night I have ever endured in my life. I often wish I had more memories of parties like that, which is why it was so cool to find the setlist I wrote down for that night in a box of old receipts and memorobilia. So here's the next best thing to phone cameras before we all had them: Me repeating a night of Goth/Industrial sets from 11 years ago. Think of it as a Time Capsule. A better mixed, VNV Nation-laden time capsule with bpm all over the place. I ask you to Drac It Up. "It has been established..." Gravity Kills: Guilty (Youth Art as Prostitution rmx) Das Ich: Destillat (VNV Nation rmx) And One: Life Isn't Easy in Germany Seraphim Shock: After Dark In Strict Confidence: Become An Angel VNV Nation: Darkangel (azrael) Kevorkian Death Cycle: How to Nuke Heaven Evil's Toy: Transparent Frequencies Aghast View: Immunity (dub) Wolfsheim: The Sparrows & the Nightingales "Kelly's Apology" VNV Nation: Standing Half Space June 2011

OK, first of all, WOW. The response to the last mix has literally been staggering. I was sure when I made it that I could count the amount of old friends on one hand that would care at all about a vintage Tracks mix, and I was wonderfully wrong: "2011" got a better response than any podcast I've ever done. Old friends and new, THANKS for the trip down memory lane. I'd say lets do it again sometime, except that I'm doing it RIGHT NOW. Just a little bit more nostalgia. Then forward to the future. I can quit anytime I want to. 2Xtreme: Der General (Bewegt Euch)

Throughout the 80's and 90's, in Our Nation's Capital, Washington D.C., if you were a club kid, a freak, gay, all three or in love with any of the above, there was only one club to hit on Thursday nights and weekends: TRACKS. For yours truly, it was my gateway drug to club music, dance music, DJing and kamikaze shooters. In the late 90's I wouldn't have missed a Thursday night for love or money, and I completely used up my supply of both, every Thursday night. Tracks is long gone now: Torn down in favor of baseball and big government, and only the memories and the music remain. The wonderful, wonderful music. Over the last few days there's been a bit of a spontaneous Love-in and Nostalgia overdose in the Facebook Community for Tracks alumni, and you know, one of my great regrets was that I never took the opportunities I got to DJ there. So this is my way of closing that little chapter: A podcast featuring all my favorites from that era, that I first heard and fell in love with at Tracks. Try not to make fun of the mohawk. Turns out, it was allergies. Which anybody who was on the East Coast of the United States in the past 3 months can more than understand. However, the date I had to blow off to stay at home deciding whether I was sick was probably not impressed. BUT, like most sick days, I got a mix out of it. Enjoy my suffering. So a couple of weeks ago a few friends and I made the relatively routine pilgrimage to Philadelphia from Washington D.C. to see the Summer Synthpop tour featuring De/Vision, Iris and Mesh (unqualifiably awesome, by the way). This is a journey that all DC scenesters make on a regular basis, since Philadelphia offers so many things not available in Your Nation's Capital: Cool shows, skyscrapers, real graveyards and anything even remotely approaching retail. Anyhoo, being the DJ of the trip, I was designated the, er, DJ of the trip, and asked to bring some appropriate music for the journey. I threw together a no effort hour and a quarter mix. Turns out despite not even trying, the mixing was pretty decent. So why don't you all take the journey with us, again? Enjoy! 1. Depeche Mode: Home
